Third-Gen Audi Q3 Debuts: Sharper, Smarter, and Electrified for the Modern SUV Buyer

The Audi Q3, a mainstay in the premium compact SUV category for over a decade, enters its third generation with a comprehensive overhaul—delivering bold styling, cutting-edge lighting technology, advanced driver assistance, and partially electrified powertrains that align with Audi’s push toward sustainable mobility.

With over two million units sold globally since its debut, the Q3 remains a core model in Audi’s portfolio. “With the third generation of the Audi Q3, we are renewing an important model family as part of our product initiative and strengthening our range with a powerful plug-in hybrid and efficient combustion engines,” said Gernot Döllner, CEO of AUDI AG.

A Confident New Design

Audi’s design evolution is clearly visible in the new Q3. A wider Singleframe grille, sleeker headlights, and a sculpted profile with prominent shoulder lines give the SUV a more emotional and muscular stance. The rear features new digital OLED taillights and a continuous LED light strip—a first for Audi’s compact lineup.

Buyers can choose from eleven exterior color options, including new finishes like Madeira Brown (matte) and Sage Green. Wheel sizes now range from 17 to 20 inches, with new aerodynamic designs and options from Audi Sport.

Aerodynamic efficiency has also been improved, with a drag coefficient of 0.30. Acoustic glazing on the front side windows and upgraded insulation enhance cabin quietness.

Lighting Tech from the Flagship Class

Borrowing from Audi’s full-size models, the Q3 debuts digital Matrix LED headlights powered by micro-LED technology—each unit containing over 25,000 micro-LEDs for dramatically improved road illumination. Lane and orientation lighting functions now integrate with driver assistance systems, offering features like dynamic lane departure warnings and construction zone lighting adjustments. Rear lighting is equally sophisticated with six OLED panels offering customizable signatures and animation sequences.

Digitally Enhanced Interior

Inside, the Q3 adopts Audi’s new digital architecture. A panoramic display layout includes a 12.8-inch central MMI touchscreen and an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster. The dashboard’s Softwrap design, new steering wheel layout, and flat door handles add a modern, spacious feel.

Voice operation is handled by Audi’s AI-powered assistant with avatar-based interaction, and the infotainment system runs on Android Automotive OS, offering integrated third-party apps like YouTube directly through the MMI.

Sustainability was a focus during development: trim options include wood from fast-growing sources and fabrics made entirely from recycled materials. Practicality remains a Q3 strength, with a 488-liter boot that expands to 1,386 liters with the rear seats folded. Towing capacity is rated at 2,100 kg.

Powertrains: Efficient, Electrified, Versatile

Audi offers a wide engine lineup for the Q3:

  • Q3 35 TFSI (110 kW / 150 PS): A 1.5-liter four-cylinder with mild-hybrid tech and Cylinder on Demand, optimized for fuel efficiency.
  • Q3 40 TFSI quattro (195 kW / 265 PS): A 2.0-liter engine mated to all-wheel drive and a 7-speed S tronic transmission.
  • Q3 35 TDI (110 kW / 150 PS): Diesel variant ideal for long-distance driving with low fuel consumption.
  • Q3 50 TFSI e (200 kW / 272 PS): The plug-in hybrid variant features a larger 25.7 kWh battery (19.7 kWh net), offering up to 119 km of electric range (WLTP). It supports up to 50 kW DC fast charging, allowing an 80% recharge in under 30 minutes.

New Suspension and Driving Modes

Audi has reengineered the Q3’s suspension for improved comfort and handling. A standard steel-spring setup is complemented by optional sport suspension and adaptive dampers with two-valve technology, allowing more precise control of rebound and compression.

The “balanced” driving mode is now available, instead of the previous “auto” mode, which represents a blend of dynamics and drive comfort. Designed for off-road applications, “offroad plus” is also offered on quattro variants.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

A full range of assistance systems improves safety and usability:

  • Standard Features: Lane departure warning, cruise control, front emergency braking, fatigue detection and traffic sign recognition.
  • Adaptive Driving Assistant Plus: Offers lane center, assisted lane changes, and online data improves performance on unmarked roads.
  • Interior Camera Monitoring: Monitor for driver inattentiveness and deploys safety measures when needed.
  • Trained Parking and Reverse Assist: The Q3 can learn up to 5 parking maneuvers, and it can even autonomously reverse for 50 metres if needed.
  • Four surround-view cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and intelligent parking functions round out the driver aid tech.

Launch and Pricing

The new Audi Q3 will begin deliveries in October, with pre-orders starting in summer. In Germany, the Q3 TFSI (110 kW) starts at €44,600, while the plug-in hybrid Q3 e-hybrid (200 kW) is priced from €49,300. Production will take place in both Győr, Hungary, and Ingolstadt, Germany.
