REE Automotive Signs MOU With Borgwarner Subsidiary

REE Automotive has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Cascadia Motion, a subsidiary of BorgWarner, to jointly develop and commercialise electric drive units (EDUs) combining REE’s corner technology with Cascadia Motion’s iM-125 inverter-motor module for global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) programmes. Under a proposed royalty-bearing arrangement, Cascadia Motion would manufacture the EDUs, with REE providing access to its assembly line, tooling, inventory, and supplier network.

The EDU market is projected to double by 2035, growing at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 9% from 2025, according to industry research cited by REE. The companies said the combined product would be available as an off-the-shelf solution through CascadiaMotion.com.

In a statement, Cascadia Motion General Manager Joseph McHenry said: “This collaboration reflects our commitment to delivering innovative, ready-to-integrate drive units that help OEMs reduce development time and streamline vehicle launch.”

REE Chief Executive Daniel Barel added: “We believe this collaboration positions us to meet global demand at scale while laying the groundwork for next-generation, fully by-wire solutions.”

The parties also plan to evaluate demand for complete software-defined vehicle solutions, including standalone REEcorner units and REE’s software products. The MOU builds on a three-year collaboration between the companies.
