Yamaha’s Chennai Factory Celebrates 10 Years of Excellence and 5 Millionth Two-Wheeler Rollout
India Yamaha Motor (IYM) Pvt. Ltd.’s Chennai plant achieved a significant milestone in the company’s manufacturing journey as the plant completes a decade of operations. Also their milestone was to roll out its five millionth unit – an Aerox 155 Version S, and it signifies what a core unit the plant has for both domestic and export production.
Since its commencement of operations in 2015, the cutting-edge Chennai factory has evolved into a formal strategic location in Yamaha’s global manufacturing locations. Currently, the plants operations are producing a hybrid range of scooters exemplified with products like the RayZR 125 Fi and the Fascino 125 Fi, along with its sporty Aerox 155 Version S. The range of product lines produced in Tamil Nadu and sold to the global market also consists of exported models – a variation of the FZ electrical series, Saluto, and Alpha scooters. As a result, the facility’s exports make up over 30% of the plant’s production showcasing its [Chennai plant] significance in the global supply of Yamaha.
Speaking on the milestone, Mr. Itaru Otani, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies, stated:

Integrated Manufacturing for Enhanced Efficiency
Spanning 177 acres, the Chennai plant operates on a unique integrated manufacturing model—with 109 acres devoted to IYM operations and 68 acres allocated to co-located vendor partners. This “One Factory” approach ensures seamless coordination, reducing lead times and optimizing supply chain responsiveness, making it one of Yamaha’s most agile and efficient plants worldwide.
Over the past decade, the facility has continuously upgraded its capabilities to align with Yamaha’s premium product strategy. It is engineered to manufacture high-value two-wheelers with small to mid-size engine capacities, aligned with India’s evolving emission norms and global quality standards.
Driving Exports and Global Compliance
Positioned as a global export hub, the factory serves diverse markets across Europe, Latin America, ASEAN, and beyond. With a stringent focus on compliance, quality, and adaptability, it manufactures products that meet international benchmarks—enabling Yamaha to cater to the growing demand for performance-driven, environmentally compliant two-wheelers.
Championing Green Manufacturing
Reinforcing Yamaha’s commitment to sustainable industrial development, the Chennai plant is equipped with an installed solar power capacity of 4450 kW, significantly contributing to reduced carbon emissions. The facility employs zero-water discharge systems, advanced water recycling, and daylight-optimized infrastructure—positioning it as a model for eco-friendly and energy-efficient manufacturing.
All core utilities are centrally located, minimizing distribution loss and enabling centralized control—further boosting operational sustainability and reducing environmental impact.
